1. The Kinds of Works of the Holy Spirit
If you receive the Holy Spirit, your spirit that has been dead due to Adam’s disobedience will be revived. You will be able to mature as a man of spirit as God’s child and become a witness of the Lord. Let’s consider just seven works of the Holy Spirit done for God’s children.
1) He will teach us and bring to our remembrance all things
Man is composed of spirit, soul, and body, and the soul works through the cells of the brain. The memory device in the brain cells enables us to remember something and reminds of things when necessary. People have different memory power because their memory mechanisms are different. It grows old and senile as people get old.
Likewise, because the human memory mechanism is not perfect, we do not have perfect memory. But if we receive the Holy Spirit, we can remember everything precisely and perfectly with the power of the Holy Spirit. That is why John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
In order to receive these works of the Holy Spirit, we have to demolish all the theories that are against the Word of God and break every high thing that exalts itself against the
knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. That is why 1 Corinthians 3:18 says, “If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.”
Therefore, if we receive the Holy Spirit, we come to know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. We can be guided to wisdom and become a spiritual man because the Holy Spirit will instruct us in all things with truth and remind us of all the things that the Lord said.
2) He testifies that Jesus Christ is the Savior
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He lets us know who Jesus is and testifies to Him who is eternal truth. Therefore, John 15:26 says, “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,”
In Matthew 16:15-17, Jesus asked His disciples who He was, and Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Then, Jesus said that it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to him, but His Father who is in Heaven. Namely, it was impossible for him to know about Jesus without the Spirit of God.
Therefore, if we receive the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit testifies that Jesus Christ is our Savior who saved us from sins. Then, we can become witnesses of the Lord and testify about Jesus Christ.
3) He will guide us into all the truth and disclose to us what is to come
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth and truth itself. He leads and guides us into truth. If we are full of the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of God, we will prophesy and receive great help in our Christian life.
That is why John 16:13 says, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”
If we are full of the Holy Spirit, we will speak as the Spirit of God guides us. So we will know the things to come, and we will be able to avoid tests and hardships wisely. We can prepare ourselves not to receive the works of Satan so that we will always lead a victorious life. All things will go well with us.
4) He testifies that we are God’s children
Before we receive the Holy Spirit, our spirits were dead, and we could not call God ‘Father’. When we receive the Holy Spirit the dead spirit within us is revived. The Holy Spirit gives birth to our spirit. We can come to know God and serve God as our Father to the extent that our dead spirits are revived.
That is why Romans 8:14-15 says that as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. And we did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but we received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
Likewise, the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and leads us to live as God’s children (Romans 8:16-17).
5) He helps in our weaknesses
Romans 8:26 says, “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” All our diseases are healed by the stripes of the whippings Jesus received for us. He also took our weaknesses so that we can be healthy spiritually and physically. Therefore, those children of God who have received the Holy Spirit can lead a healthy life.
Peter, the foremost of the disciples of Jesus, denied the Christ due to the fear of death before he received the Holy Spirit. But after he received the Holy Spirit, he did not fear death but became a strong and brave man to preach the gospel. Likewise, because the Holy Spirit helps in our weaknesses, we can become strong and courageous by the fullness of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will help us in all aspects and we can become great men with the power of God.
6) He enables us to pray according to God’s will
1 Corinthians 2:10 says, “For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.” The Holy Spirit knows the heart of God. He wants everything to be done according to God’s will. When God’s children pray, He guides them to pray according to God’s will.
Romans 8:27 says, “and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” It is the best for everything to be done according to God’s will. Therefore, when God’s children pray,
they should receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that He Himself can make intercession for the things that should be done.
If we follow the desire of the Holy Spirit, we will not fulfill our fleshly desires but bear fruit of the Holy Spirit. These fruits are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, and against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit leads us to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit and to become a man of spirit who acts completely according to the will of God.
Therefore, God’s children who have received the Holy Spirit should live like God’s children with the help of the Holy Spirit. They should obey the works of the Holy Spirit and rely on Him.
