For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with piritual words.
– (1 Corinthians 2:10-13)
- You will Receive Power when the Holy Spirit Comes Upon You
The Holy Spirit is the gift from God for His children and is the guarantee that we are God’s children. Jesus promised His disciples in Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
And Acts 2:38 says, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 1:22 says, “who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.”
John 3:5-8 says, “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of
it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Just as we cannot see the wind although it is blowing, we cannot see the Holy Spirit although He exists. One who is born of the Holy Spirit has the evidence, but in most cases we do not see or discern it.
But still, we can feel the freshness and coolness of wind although we cannot see it. We can also see its direction watching the leaves or things that are moved.
In the same way, although we cannot see the Holy Spirit, we can discern whether one has received Him or not and how full one is of the Holy Spirit with the Word of God and spiritual evidences.
Acts 2:1-4 explains about the Holy Spirit who came on the Pentecost. After the ascension of Jesus Christ, the disciples did not leave Jerusalem according to His word (Acts 1:4) and they continued with one accord in prayer and supplication in the upper room where they were staying (Acts 1:12-14).
When the Pentecost came, 50 days after the Jesus’ resurrection, suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them cloven tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
