1. The Powerful Works of the Holy Spirit in Early Churches
As they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit like a rushing mighty wind and fire, then they spoke in other tongues. At this time, Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven were all amazed and marveled (Acts 2:5-13). Peter came to bravely testify to Jesus Christ along with the other 11 disciples, and three thousand people repented after listening to him (Acts 2:37-41). Peter even made a lame man walk (Acts 3:1-10). He performed many signs and wonders (Acts 5:1-16), preaching about Jesus Christ even under persecutions (Acts 4:1-22).
Likewise, if the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we can receive the power, perform signs and wonders, and testify to the living God and Jesus Christ, who took the sufferings of the cross and resurrected. For a period of forty days He appeared to testify that He was living
and taught things about God’s kingdom. He commanded the disciples not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father. He said, “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:3-5). This was fulfilled by the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.
Also, Acts 1:8 says, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” As said, the early church was established through the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Pentecost (Acts 2:42-47). The gospel was preached by the apostles to the end of the earth, so that now even the Gentiles know this gospel.
